Finance

Our Mission

The Finance Commission aims to oversee the allocation and usage of student fees with transparency and purpose. This commission manages and provides oversight for the allocation of over $10 million in segregated fees, which are the fees paid by students that go back to students. We also offer feedback and funding decisions that support student activities, events, and organizations, ensuring that student dollars are used effectively and responsibly.

Our Projects

  • Segregated Fees - Non-Allocables

At UW-Eau Claire, Non-Allocable Organized Activities are organizations that are seen as essential for the university to run.

The amount of non-allocable segregated fees paid by students is roughly $10.7 million, which makes up the non-allocable Organized Activities budget. In the fall, the Finance Commission holds public meetings in which the UW-Eau Claire Non-Allocable Organized Activities come in to present their segregated fee asks for the upcoming Fiscal Year.

After hearings and deliberations. The Finance Commission submits a budget recommendation resolution for the Student Senate to vote on and approve. Student Senate then passes these recommendations to the Chancellor.

  • Segregated Fees - Allocables

At UW-Eau Claire, Allocable Organized Activities are organizations that are seen as not essential for the university to run but in-line with the mission of the university.

The amount of allocable segregated fees paid by students is roughly $1.3 million, which makes up the allocable Organized Activities budget. Every October, the Finance Commission holds public meetings in which the UW-Eau Claire Allocable Organized Activities come in to present their budget asks for the upcoming Fiscal Year.

After hearings and deliberations, the Finance Commission submits a budget bill for the Student Senate to vote on and approve in mid-February. Student Senate then passes these recommendations to the Chancellor for final approval.

  • Special Allocations

Occasionally, an Organized Activity may have an unexpected circumstance occur which will change the level of funding needed for a program during a Fiscal Year.

An unallocated portion of the Organized Activities Budget is held in reserve to enable the Finance Commission and Student Senate to consider cases in which additional funding is deemed appropriate and necessary.

These special allocations of funds to Organized Activities are not to be recurring in nature.

Our Meetings

This spring, the Finance Commission is meeting weekly in Davies Center in Council Oak Conference Room (260) on Thursdays at 5:00 PM.

Anyone is welcome and encouraged to come to any of our meetings and share any ideas, comments, or questions they may have! You do not need to be a member of Student Senate or interested in joining Student Senate to be a part of one of our commissions. In fact, we prefer a range of opinions and points of view across our commission members!

If you can't make it to our meeting time but are interested in joining our commission and/or getting in contact with us, we encourage you to send us an email at stusen53@uwec.edu or come talk to someone in the Student Senate office, which is located in Davies 220.
