Bylaws and Constitution

What are bylaws?

Bylaws are a set of expectations and rules that are a useful backbone for an expansive and ever-changing organization such as the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Student Senate.

The Student Senate Bylaws are the main governing document of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Student Senate. In consultation with the Student Body Constitution and the Student Senate Operating Policies, [our bylaws are] the binding outline of the duties, responsibilities, expectations, and functions of the Student Senate, its commissions, committees, and members.

At UW-Eau Claire, our Student Senate recognizes how important bylaws are for the operation of our organization and for our ability to be a functional resource to the UW-Eau Claire Student Body, and we therefore prioritize the consistent maintenance of our bylaws by passing legislation that keeps our bylaws as applicable and relevant as possible.

Why do we have bylaws?

The reason our Student Senate operates in accordance with a set of bylaws is to aim to achieve professionalism, efficiency, and accurate representation of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Student Body by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Student Senate.

As representatives of the student body, all members of Student Senate are held to a high standard, both by themselves and by each other, and the existence and maintenance of our bylaws is one of the many ways that we aim to be as transparent as possible with our student body so that they can hold us to a high standard as well.

What is our constitution?

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Student Body Constitution was created by the students and for the students to outline the rights and responsibilities of all students on the UW-Eau Claire and UW-Eau Claire - Barron County campuses.
