She is passionate about education, having supervised social work interns and served as an adjunct professor for UW Madison’s Part-Time Social Work program, along with contributing to internal social work education committees. As Vice-Chair of CHANGE (Connecting Hmong for Advocacy, Networking, Growth and Equity), a Mayo resource group, Elizabeth advocates for equity and works to address health disparities in the Hmong community.

Zong Vang is a first-generation college graduate from a large Hmong family. Her parents fled Vietnam and Thailand during the Vietnam war in hopes to provide them with a better life. Her parents fled with 5 children all under the age of 8 years old. She graduated as a nurse in 2008 and has been in the healthcare field since high school. Her parents valued job stability and pushed their children to go into the healthcare field. She is able to speak Hmong and English fluently.

Marquita Davis, Director of Health Equity Programs and Initiatives at Mayo Clinic wears many hats in the Chippewa Valley. Throughout her 20+ year healthcare career, Marquita has led transformative redesign of care coordination systems, wellness initiatives and created new education pathways, inspiring individuals and communities to lead healthier, more empowered lives.

Sami Taylor, Lac Courte Oreilles Odaawaa-zaaga’iganin Band of Ojibwe Nindoonjibaa, specializes in IT Healthcare at Mayo Clinic Health System and has dedicated 17 years to the Endpoint Operations team as a Senior Level Service Provider. “I am a second-generation college graduate and have focused my studies on a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. I will receive my diploma this Spring of 2025 from the University of Wisconsin Stout. I began my journey at the Lac Courte Oreilles University where I received my A.S. Network Administration degree and took advantage of the UW System Program which connected me with UW Stout. I began as an intern at Luther Midelfort in 2008 and continue to flip the narrative by developing culturally relevant education materials and resources to be utilized in the Mayo Clinic practice. Integrating Native American perspectives and traditional knowledge into STEM curricula to make education more culturally relevant and engaging for Native American students who share a similar journey. Family and culture are my sole focus, each empowers me to make the best decisions related to my professional and personal development.”

Ka Yang has been a sonographer at Mayo for 5 years. “As a first-generation, nontraditional, Hmong college graduate, I have always strived to fulfill the hopes and dreams of my immigrant parents. Growing up in a predominantly Hmong-speaking home, it was difficult to maintain my different roles and find the balance between my traditional values and more progressive social norms. Once I became a mother, I knew I wanted to help forge a path of inclusion and diversity in hopes that my children would never face the adversity and struggles that I did.”
