Mission Lambda Pi Eta is the official communication honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA). It was founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas by Dr. Stephen A. Smith, with the purpose of recognizing, fostering, and rewarding outstanding scholastic achievement in the field of communication. In 1994, Lambda Pi Eta gained national recognition when it was endorsed by NCA, becoming the official honor society for communication students. The name “Lambda Pi Eta” symbolizes the three modes of persuasion described by Aristotle in his book Rhetoric: Logos (Lambda), Pathos (Pi), and Ethos (Eta). Today, Lambda Pi Eta continues to play a vital role in the academic and professional lives of communication students by recognizing their achievements and providing opportunities for growth.
