International Poetry Night

*CALL FOR READERS! *
We are now seeking readers for the 19th Annual International Poetry Reading, which will take place Wednesday, April 9th, 6-8 PM in the Ojibwe Ballroom (Davies Center Room 330).

If you can read in a language other than modern standard English, we want to hear from you! If not, please forward this message to someone who does. We want to include as many different languages as possible so that we can all appreciate the beauty and diversity of the world’s voices. Over the years, poems have been read in more than 40 different languages! Participants will receive a souvenir and a booklet with all the poems in their original language and English translations.

Students, staff, and faculty who are interested in participating should send an e-mail to the IPR organizers poetryreading@uwec.edu by Friday, March 7th to indicate your interest. Write “Poetry Reading” in the subject line followed by the language you’d like to read in (such as, “Poetry Reading-Arabic”). This will get you on the list of readers. You do not yet need to have chosen a poem at this point—this is just to establish a list of participants.

Later in March, we will contact all readers to request electronic copies of poems and translations for the booklet and PowerPoint during the event. Poems should be no more than 40 lines maximum, or about 2 minutes long, but preferably shorter. Please note that if you have participated in previous years, we kindly request that you select a different piece to read this year. It can be in the same language you have read in before (just not the same poem).
